Traffic Engineering is part of the Engineering Services Department.
The Traffic Engineer is responsible for the management of traffic Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) including the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Master Plan, bike lanes and routes, Traffic Signal Warrant Studies, installation and traffic signal timing. Additionally, the Traffic Engineer responds to resident submissions related to traffic signs, pavement markings and roadway illumination.

Speed Management Policy
Citizens with concerns about the safety on their streets due to higher speed vehicles are encouraged to review the City’s Speed Management Policy and submit a Speed Management Request and Support form to engineering@tylertexas.com for the City to evaluate.
Projects that meet eligibility requirements will be evaluated twice a year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. The Speed Management Policy outlines the evaluation process.

Intelligent Transportation System Master Plan
In the Spring of 2019 City Council authorized an Intelligent Transportation System Master Plan Study. The study was completed in the Fall of 2020. See below for a summary report of completed activities and recommendations.
