Downtown Improvement Project Groundbreaking

  • Date: 08/29/2025 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM

The heart of Tyler is about to see its next transformation! On Friday, Aug. 29, at 9:30 a.m., the City of Tyler, in collaboration with Smith County, will break ground on the Downtown Improvement Project (D.I.P.).

The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Don Warren, Smith County Judge Neal Franklin and a representative for Congressman Nathaniel Moran about the importance of this project in strengthening the heart of Tyler. After the program, along with the Smith County Commissioners and Smith County Judge, the City Council members and Mayor Warren will assist with part of the demolition.

The Downtown Improvement Project will modernize water, sewer, and stormwater systems, improve pedestrian safety, and update traffic flow throughout Downtown. The project will also transform the current T.B. Butler Square into an expanded green space to prepare for future growth and investment.
