Support Library Programs

The Friends of the Tyler Public Library is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the Tyler Public Library by providing funds and programs that would not otherwise be possible. Learn more about the Friends and how you can support Library programs!

The Friends have been able to provide a variety of enhancements to the library including:

  • Enhanced children's story time activities & supplies
  • Special speakers & performers
  • 3D printer & supplies
  • Reading programs & prizes
  • Public copiers - includes free scan to USB service
  • Seed library upkeep
  • Programming supplies
  • And so much more!

Library Board Meeting

  1. Call meeting to order.
  2. Conduct a roll call, establish a quorum, and explain the rules of decorum.
  3. Consider approval of minutes from the previous board meeting held on March 13, 2024.
  4. Review and discuss the following library statistics and programs:
    1. Highlights from the submission of the Tyler Public Library’s 2023 Annual Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) report that was due by April 30, 2024.
  1. Increase in library cardholders in 2023 as compared to 2022
  2. Increase in library activities including reference transactions, digital material circulation, and program attendance for 2023 as compared to 2022

    1. Library Outreach statistics: Tyler Public Library’s participation in community events.
    2. Discovery Time Play Group: Playgroup for children from birth to preschool
    3. Baby Block Party: For parents and caregivers of children from infancy to 3 years old for developmental screening.
    4. Computer Lab statistics
    5. Free Little Libraries – Tyler Public Library to partner with the City of Tyler Parks Department to keep the Free Little Libraries stocked at the following City of Tyler Parks: City Park, Emmet J. Scott Park, Faulkner Park, Hillside Park, Pollard Park, and Southside Park.
  3. Review and discuss the following 2024summer events:
    1. Summer Reading Challenge changes:

     

  4. Method of engagement to increase program participation.
  5. The increase in the literacy goal for each participant category.
  6. Prizes for each participant category.

  7. Kickoff party; Monday, June 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  8. Summer Food Program collaboration with East Texas Food Bank
  9. Free Transit Bus rides to and from the Library from June 1 to August 31 for kids up to 17 years of age. Adult passes are $1.00.

  10. Enchanted Book Gardens Program: participants will have the opportunity to create a little garden out of a book on June 13 at 7:00 p.m.
  11. An Unexpected Adventure: a celebration of J.R.R. Tolkien’s world – author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings on June 29 at 6:00 p.m.
  12. Surreal Summer Painting Program: participants will explore the world of surreal art on June 20 at 7:00 p.m.
  13. Plant Swap: participants will get the opportunity to swap plants on July 20. Time: TBA
  14. Dungeons and Dragons: The library will host two One-shot adventures divided by skill level on June 15 for beginners and July 27 for experienced players.
  15. Build Your Own Board Game: participants will get to build their own board game and rules on July 11 at 5:30 p.m.
