Tyler Water Utilities (TWU) is moving forward with upgrades to 10,000 linear feet of two-inch water mains in the water distribution system to six-inch mains. On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Council approved a Capital Improvements Project contract for $1,813,982 with Capps-Capco Construction, Inc.
The City has about nine miles of two-inch galvanized water mains dating back to the 1940s and many dead-end mains. The project will focus on replacing two-inch galvanized lines with six-inch PVC pipes and looping dead-end mains, which will help to ensure a quality and safe product for customers.
The project will focus on areas near West Elm Street and Mahon Avenue:
- West Elm Street
- South Confederate Avenue
- South Ross Avenue
- East Elm Street
- East Richards Street
- East Earle Street
- South Clayton Avenue
During the project, TWU will collaborate closely with the Streets Department to coordinate water main construction with the street overlay schedule, aiming to prevent disruption to newly repaired streets.
In 2024, the City Council approved a contract with Elledge Engineering for the design and construction phase services for the water main improvements project.
