DESCRIPTION:<p>The Tyler Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is asking residents to help shape the future of transit in Tyler and Smith County as the Tyler Rail and Regional Transit Study enters its final stage.&nbsp;</p><div><p>Residents can share their ideas by completing a <a href="https://engage.publiccoordinate.com/en/project/tyler-rail-and-regional-transit-study">survey</a> and joining a <a href="https://kimley-horn.zoom.us/j/97451135271#success" target="_blank">virtual town hall</a> at <strong>4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23. </strong>Both opportunities give the community a direct role in deciding how a light rail service could improve daily life in the region.&nbsp;</p></div><div><p>The study examines short-term and long-term possibilities. Consultants are evaluating limited trolley service on existing rail lines as an early step and looking at future connections to the proposed high-speed rail service along the Interstate 20 corridor. The Tyler City Council approved a $150,000 contract in <a href="https://www.cityoftyler.org/Home/Components/News/News/3752/16">January with Kimley-Horn to complete the study</a> through the MPO’s <a href="https://www.tylerareampo.org/plans-and-projects/upcoming-projects/work-program-upwp">2024-25 Unified Planning Work Program.</a></p></div><div><p>Community feedback will guide the final recommendations and ensure that transit plans meet the needs of Smith County residents.
